Learning the Time
In first grade, children can tell the time to the hour and half past the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times. They also recognize and use language relating to dates.
In second grade, children can tell the time with a precision of either half an hour, a quarter of an hour, and five minutes. They use language relating to dates as well.
In third grade, children tell the time with a precision of five minutes and, later, a minute. They solve problems involving the elapsed time between events and can convert time between a 12-hour and a 24-hour clock. Children can also tell the time on a clock with Roman numerals.
In fourth grade, children can tell the exact time on a clock. They continue solving problems involving the elapsed time between events and learning about Roman Numerals.
