In the fifth year of elementary school, children will take a big step forward in the field of number sense. They will practice place value in decimal numbers and will know more about negative numbers and prime and composite numbers.
They will be able to perform advanced calculations of multiplication and division and will begin to learn about factors and multiples and the order of operations.
Children will also learn how to simplify and compare fractions and use decimal fractions in problems involving money.
A new field introduced this year is the area of percentages, ratio, and proportion, where children will carry out simple calculations with proportion and some conversions with percentages and fractions.
5th Grade Learning plan
The main subjects learned in the 5th year are decimal place value, prime numbers, factors and multiples, the order of operations, equivalent fractions, decimal fractions, introduction to percentages where children will learn how to find the percentage and the area and perimeter of geometric figures.
